- Most fancy shaped diamonds can vary greatly - some being more squarely shaped while others are more rectangular. These proportions are measured by the length to width ratio.
A perfectly square diamond will have a ratio of 1.0. A longer more rectangular diamond may have a ratio of 1.3 or 1.4. some very long, slender shapes, such as the Marquise, can have a ratio of 2.0 or higher.
