Conflict diamonds (sometimes called "blood diamonds") are diamonds that have
been used by rebels to fund military action against legitimate, internationally
recognized governments.
These diamonds first captured the world’s attention during a brutal conflict in
Sierra Leone that occured in the later 1990s. As a result, the diamond industry
announced a “zero tolerance” policy for conflict diamonds.
- The Kimberly Process is a certification system ensuring that a
diamond has come from a conflict-free source. Today, over 99% of all rough diamonds
on the global market have been verified as originating from non-conflict sources.

100% of the diamonds sold by Solomon Brothers are certified by the Kimberly Process
to have come from conflict-free sources.
