A diamond ring can be a precious symbol of the union between two people, or it can be a family heirloom to be passed through several generations. No matter what your diamond ring means to you, it’s important to keep it clean. Keeping your diamond ring clean can prevent scratches or blemishes on the stone and can prevent tarnishing of the ring itself.

We at Solomon Brothers Jewelers recommend that you bring in your ring every six months for a professional cleaning. For day-to-day build-up, it’s easy to clean your ring with regular household cleaners. We recommend windex as it’s one of the few cleaners that’s gentle on jewelry. Read on to learn how to clean your diamond ring with windex in four easy steps.

What You’ll Need:

  • A small, clean bowl. Preferably plastic or ceramic as a metal bowl can scratch your ring.
  • A toothbrush with soft bristles for gentle cleaning.
  • A clean, lint free cloth to dry your ring such as microfiber.
  • Your diamond ring.

How To Clean:

  1. Gently place your ring in the bowl. Spray a generous amount of windex in the bowl to coat the ring and let it sit for about one minute.
  2. Use your toothbrush to scrub your ring. Pay special attention to the area where the diamond is set in the ring in order to remove any build-up.
  3. While still brushing, rinse your ring under warm water to fully remove the windex, dirt, and oil.
  4. Use your soft cloth to dry your ring, making sure that it’s fully dry to prevent unsightly water spots.

To keep your diamond ring looking as brilliant as the day you got it, it’s necessary to clean it regularly. Depending on your daily activities this could mean once a week, or every few weeks. Contact us at Solomon Brothers for more jewelry cleaning advice.
